Ted Gärdestad - För kärlekens skull (2016)
Great in some aspects, disappointing in others
As a huge Ted Gärdestad fan, I was very excited when this documentary was coming out.
And in some ways it is a nice tribute.
The documentary features some wonderful interviews with Ted's family and friends, most touching are those with his brother Kenneth and his father Arne.
It is also nice to see old footage of Ted, both from interviews and of him performing.
It is thanks to these points that I am still giving it a 7/10.
Sadly I feel like the documentary-makers lost their footing during the last fifteen minutes of the documentary.
Firstly, there are too many people featured during these last fifteen minutes who never met Ted like Darin and David Lindgren Zacharias, which means they have no interesting stories to share. They are basically just guessing and making up things, which in my opinion isn't interesting.
Then they use most of the time left showing other artists covering his music and then going on and on about these new versions they have made of some of Ted's unreleased songs, always interrupting Ted's original demos, when Ted's demos is the only interesting thing about it.
It's just frustrating.
I completely understand why Ted's brother Kenneth stated that he was disappointed by the end result of the documentary.
Is it worth watching?
Yes, at least most of it.
