- His name is Gary Hobson. He gets tomorrow's newspaper today. He doesn't know how. He doesn't know why. All he knows is when the early edition hits his doorstep, he has twenty-four hours to set things right.
- Chuck begins dating a rabbi, and is compelled to tell the truth around her and be honest in his dealings with others. This creates a myriad of problems, forcing him to break up with her. Gary saves the life of an accident prone librarian several times in one day, and she falls head-over-heels in love with him. Unfortunately, Gary's cook at McGinty's was planning on asking the librarian out. Becoming jealous of Gary, he quits, but is hired back as Gary tries to be a matchmaker for the young lovers.
- When Henry accidentally discovers one of Gary's newspapers from the future, he uses the information to make friends in school and provide his dad with gambling tips.
- A small girl inadvertently leaves her school yard as she chases after a pet rabbit, and becomes lost in the sewers and storm drains of Chicago. The more Gary tries to find her, the more he becomes the number one suspect of the Police, as they think he had something to do with her disappearance. Chuck becomes involved with an inventor of a machine that can detect movement below ground, and he persuades the inventor to test his machine by finding the girl below the pavement. As heavy rains hit the city, the storm drains become full of water, and finding the girl before she drowns becomes a race against time.
- Believing he gets no help in running "McGinty's", and feeling he is not respected, Chuck quits and leaves the bar. Gary is suffering his own emotional trauma in dealing with the newspaper, and begins to have dreams in which a psychiatrist counsels him to take Sunday's off from the paper and relax. Watching the Chicago Bears play on TV, he reads in tomorrow's news that the Bears' quarterback and toast of the town, Joe Damski, is going to suffer a serious injury. Gary and Damski's wife try to get the quarterback to retire, but he doesn't want to. Gary and Chuck impersonate the QB and kicker respectively, hitting the playing field to save the day.
- A woman plans to abandon her baby and take her own life. Gary's attempts to reunite her with her parents fail while he runs out of time to help her.
- Sister Mary works with inner-city youths, but begins to question her effectiveness and faith after witnessing too many young people ruin their lives through crime and violence. Gary tries to help her keep a young boy named Marcus on the straight and narrow path after his older brother Kareem is released from prison. Kareem has plans to tutor Marcus in the ways of crime, and he has no patience for Gary's interference.
- After the newspaper shows Chuck delivering a baby on the L, Gary and Marissa try to convince him to go through with it.
- An ex-cop dresses as Bat Masterson and solves crime as the fame old west US Marshall. He seems to step in to solve wrong-doings at places where Gary shows up.
- The newspaper forecasts a power outage. With the blackout, a neighborhood dispute escalates into violence.
- Teenagers are playing in an underground tunnel and find a live cannonball. While Gary saves them from an explosion, it blows up in front of Gary and he temporarily loses his eyesight. How can Gary save a young child when he cannot see?
- Gary saves a woman from drowning. Her husband is thankful and invites Gary to dinner at their home. The officer is suspicious since his wife was in a woman only swimming club. He thinks Gary is setting up situations to play the hero.
- Feeling bad that he helped get a photo journalist fired from two jobs, Gary tries to find him another job and prevent him from being murdered.
- Tis the Yuletide season, and Chuck is about to embark on an exciting skiing trip when his car is impounded. After becoming belligerent with the police, Chuck is thrown into a jail cell with a man who believes he is Santa Claus. They escape in a stolen car and head for McGinty's Bar. Meanwhile, Gary and Detective Crumb try to catch a mad bomber, only to discover the bomber is actually stalking them. They finally catch up to him in McGinty's, where he is threatening to blow the place up. Chuck and Santa Claus show up, and a standoff occurs until Santa grabs the bomb, rushing outside where it promptly detonates, killing Santa. Later, Chuck and Gary both receive very special Christmas presents, causing them to wonder if Santa really was blown up.
- Gary must find ways to prevent a collision which originally kills 13 people but has no definitive cause. However, as the deadline approaches, he is able to eliminate some of the victims but has trouble preventing a death toll.
- The paper tells Gary that Crumb, who is now living in a cabin, will die because of an explosion at his cabin. Gary calls Crumb and gets him outside just before the explosion. Crumb later shows up and stays with Gary. Later more attempts are made on Crumb, that's when former U.S. Marshall Toni Brigatti who joined the Chicago P.D. shows up and wonders what's going on. At the same time a woman from Crumb's past shows up.
- After getting tossed out of the house by his wife, Gary's dad comes to Chicago to visit Gary and discovers the secret of the paper.
- The paper tells Gary that a man , named Ricky Brown is going to be executed tomorrow. Gary learns that the previous recipient of the paper, Lucious Snow tried to help Brown but couldn't and spent the rest of his life trying to prove his innocence. Gary goes to the prison to talk to him but couldn't. But Molly Greene who is there to interview Brown allows Gary to go with her. They talk to Brown who says he was working at this company and he met a woman working there and fell for her. What he didn't know is that she's the owner and her brother had issues with their dating. Brown tried to talk to him but when Brown went to see him he found him dead. That's when he was arrested. When Gary tells Brown that he's there because of Lucious, Brown remembers him and Molly is intrigued. Molly later learns that something strange happened at the company around the time of the murder. So they go to the sister to ask what she knows.
- Gary stops two men from mugging a young woman, and then realizes the woman is a girl he went to school with. When the same two muggers show up at her office, she seeks refuge with Gary at McGinty's. It appears she has been doing research with a complex program that predicts the future, and someone wants her research for themselves. Gary's parents are kidnapped and held for ransom until the research is given to them. Gary and Chuck must save his parents without turning over the research.
- Gary attempts to prevent the death of a middle-aged man during a surgical procedure . . . a stock broker he and Chuck used to work for.
- Gary's parents visit Chicago and want to spend the day with him. Gary runs off to save ducks crossing the streets. When a cameraman snaps a picture, it shows up in the paper and starts a chain of reactions. Gary's parents are held hostage.
- Gary wakes up to get the paper and finds himself living in the past. It is 1929 and he is in an early business in the location of McGinty's. Gary tries to prevent the St Valentine's Day Massacre.
- Gary has to decide whether to help a young girl who needs a heart transplant or a troubled teen-aged boy who is due to be killed in a botched robbery.
- Gary witnesses two men trying to steal a car. And he learns one of them is Miguel Diaz's brother, who convinces Gary not to finger him which he does. But the paper tells him that he's headed down a bad road and tries to help him but his partner gets in his way.
- Gary is arrested and charged with murder after he is found standing right next to the slain body of a man who had earlier threatened to investigate his propensity to show up at crime scenes.
- Now a fugitive from justice, Gary appeals to Detective Brigatti to help get him off the hook for murder and find the real killer.
- Gary has problems dealing with being unable to save someone, which leads to The Paper predicting Gary's death.
- The city is suffering from a severe cold-snap and Chuck's apartment loses its power. He moves in with Gary for the day and takes over the entire hotel room with his pet gold fish and various possessions, frustrating Gary to no end. Out on the street, Gary keeps running into the same homeless kid begging for money and then reads that the kid is going to freeze to death. Gary finds the abandoned building where the kid is living and they both become trapped and in danger of freezing to death. Chuck sees the paper and reads that both Gary and the homeless kid freeze to death, so he rushes to the rescue but he's worse than useless.
- Gary saves baseball player Andy Miller from sustaining a ending career injury. His agent wants to make sure he's OK, so he wants to take him to an orthopedic doctor whom Gary had earlier encountered, so they drag Gary along. On the way to the hospital Gary wonders if he'll play in Chicago. But the agent who's prime concern is the best offer (which is not Chicago) tells him not to hold his breath. When they arrive at the hospital, the doctor is not available so Gary asks another doctor, Suzy Pietro, who's also an orthopedist to check Andy out. And upon meeting there's an attraction between them. The next day, which is also Valentine's Day, the paper says that Miller will play in Chicago. And Gary, promises Erica that he'll spend the day with her and, upon seeing nothing in the paper he is able to do so. But Erica unwittingly tells Emmett, the cab driver Gary encountered earlier who's attracted to Marissa, that Miller will play for Chicago. He, in turn, picks up Miller's agent and tells him about Miller's plans and confronts Miller who says that it's because of Suzy Pietro that he wants to stay in Chicago. The agent goes to the hospital and runs into the doctor who treated Miller, who blurts out that Suzu is his fiancee, when in reality he proposed to her but she didn't accept. So he makes the doctor see Miller again and let's him talk about how he and Suzy are engaged. So later while Gary is with Erica, he notices the article about Miller changes stating that he is not going to play for Chicago. When Erica tells him about Emmett, so Gary talks to him who tells him about Miller's agent so they go to the hospital and confront Pietro who denies talking to Miller, but a nurse reveals that the doctor met with Miller and what he told him. That's when Suzy tells him she can't accept his proposal. So Gary races to catch Miller before he leaves.
- Gary meets a young girl who has real powers of knowing what is going to happen to someone she touches. The girl is a foster child who pushes her foster parents away because she thinks her power is a curse. Gary helps her accept her skills.
- When Gary reads that a young boy will unwittingly shoot and kill his brother with his mother's gun, he embarks on a mission to prevent it. Pretending to be from the school, he makes contact with the divorced mother and befriends her and her boys. When the ex-husband finds out about Gary, he becomes furious and causes untold trouble until Gary succeeds in getting him arrested. However, one of the sons is still in danger and Gary must find a way to prevent his untimely death.
- The newspaper show three children die from poisoned Halloween candy but does not mention names. Gary has a difficult time trying to find who to save. His job is not made easier when two witches capture him since they think he is a warlock.
- Meredith Carson and Gary make contact once again, rekindling their relationship. At first she takes the high road and resists using the paper to get a good story, but temptation overtakes her and she follows the paper's leads to an arson fire, causing friction between Gary and herself. To make matters worse, she lets Chuck get a peek at the financial section and he scores huge in the stock market which lands him in deep trouble with SEC. Meredith finally makes a courageous decision about the paper and takes a position with a paper in another city.
- Gary's apartment catches on fire and he must find a new place to live. Gary and Chuck learn someone is trying to buy McGinty's as well as a few other downtown buildings. This affects McGinty's, but also a foster home with a lot of children.
- Gary tries to convince a prison that two criminals are escaping, however they do not believe him. The criminals escape to Gary's hometown. Gary tries to help the local sheriff, but the sheriff does not like Gary and refuses his help.
- Gary tries to stop a popular basket-baller with a medical condition from risking his life on the court.
- At a construction site, Gary attempts to halt the driving of a pylon into the ground, because the paper said it would cause an explosion. He is accidentally knocked unconscious and wakes up in the same location, but in the year 1871. Gary meets characters that look exactly like Chuck and Marissa, and tries to prevent Mrs. O'Leary's cow from kicking over the lamp, thereby triggering the famous Chicago fire. He fails and the fire is set anyway, but when he returns to 1998, he halts the construction and gets the manager arrested
- When Gary interrupts a federal investigation by trying to save a towel boy from being shot, he is placed in the Witness Protection Program. He is assigned an attractive but surly agent to watch over him, which puts off Erica, whom he just got the courage to ask out.
- Howard Banner was once a highly respected newspaper columnist, but his best days are far behind him. In order to revive his waning career, he hires a young street waif to pretend she is dying of cancer, and calls her Jenny Sloan. After writing a series of articles about her brave fight to overcome the disease, Howard Banner once again becomes the toast of Chicago. Gary discovers the deception as he tries to persuade Jenny to help give a young boy stricken with cancer the desire and will to live.
- Gary begins to experience medical problems stemming from his frequent lying to Erica about his whereabouts. He decides to come clean and tell her about the newspaper and his heroic acts. However, she has a tough time believing him after his paper gets switched with Patrick's copy of today's paper.
- Gary seems to constantly have to save a college professor from harm as she is scheduled to testify for the prosecution in a criminal case. The professor thinks Gary is stalking her. A college student is interested in Marissa.
- After saving several enlistees from an explosion, Gary is mistaken for a Lieutenant and forced to serve in the Navy, which puts his future heroic acts in jeopardy.
- Gary decides to cut off one of the bar's regulars who is a moocher until he settles his tab, and the man warns him that it's not good to do that. And when he helps someone the paper tells him to, he ruins a woman's chances of winning the lottery. That's when she comes to him, telling him that he owes her. So she lets him stay with him and claims that they're engaged. She's Irish and her family is extremely traditional and they don't like her being alone in the U.S. Her brother shows up and drives Gary nuts. And when Gary's mother shows up and likes the girl. She eventually tells Gary she wants to him to help her find the guy she really likes. The problem is, he doesn't know her.
- If Gary is unable to defuse the hatred at a white supremacist march, the leader of the white supremacists will be shot and killed. Gary is concerned about the leader's young son, who questions his father's views.
- Gary's clothes are stolen by a robber as he tries to save someone. Gary takes a costume from someone and continues on his task, however he is later sent to court for stealing. The next day, he sees the robber and tries to stop him.
- Theresa LaParco is the pretty moll of a big time mob boss named Frank Pirelli. When she decides to leave him, Pirelli tries to put a "hit" on her. Gary and Chuck make contact with Theresa as she attempts to go "on the run", putting their lives in danger also. Besides having mobsters on her trail, the police are also looking for Theresa to testify against Pirelli. Gary is questioned by both the police and Pirelli repeatedly, but he truly doesn't know where Chuck and Theresa are. Complicating matters even more, Chuck has fallen in love with Theresa.
- When an Egyptian mummy goes on display at the museum, a man steals the emerald eyes and scarab from the mummy, unleashing an ancient curse. Soon, everyone associated with the theft becomes ill.
- Gary's mom comes for a visit and is vague about why she came. He later sees her with another man and jumps to conclusions, later learning that the man convinced her to invest all of her money with him and so far has not seen any return. It's obvious that the guy is a con man and they can't do anything about it. Later when the paper says that the man's going to be shot by a woman from Indiana, Gary assumes it's his mom but discovers it's another of his victims, who gives them a list of other victims. And together they decide to get back what he took from them. Along with Erica, Gary comes up with a plan.
- C-Roc is a famous rapper whose career has begun to stall, so on his latest tour he includes a stop at his hometown to get a feel for his 'roots' again. Unbeknownst to Gary, Marissa grew up with C-Roc and is still angry with him for jilting her best friend Gayle Clark. Gayle and Marissa sing in a church choir and do not like the criminal undertones to C-Roc's music and videos, and when he sees how his music is negatively affecting Gayle's son Chris, he re-examines his life.
- Chuck comes back to Chicago and announces he's engaged to a girl named Jade. When Gary meets her, he's shocked because Jade is Amber, the jewel thief he encountered a while ago and allowed to escape. Gary's not sure what to do especially when Detective Brigatti whose career was nearly ruined by her learns she's back and wants to take her down.
