Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008)
Better suited as a "TV-Movie" ...as it's simply a pilot for the cartoon, nothing more.
Like anyone, I was skeptic from the start ever since seeing the first trailer for this. Now, maybe it's because I'm a star wars geek, or perhaps because I kept in mine before seeing this that all it is, is this is solely a long pilot episode for the cartoon series starting in October on Cartoon network.
Now...is it an all around great film.... not really. It's still enjoyable...but it's nothing compared to the ACTUAL Star Wars films or Genndy Tartakovsky's Clone Wars miniseries...but it's still enjoyable to a degree.
as said above... the film would have been better suited as a TV-movie then a theatrical one. In fact, the whole movie plays off in three parts that feel very much like their own episodes compared to an actual movie plot. In fact, you could separate this movie into three parts and you'd get what I'm saying.
The first half of the film is primarily the Battle of Christophsis with Obi-Wan and Anakin trying to hold off the CIS army while they await more troops. They are greeted by Ahsoka Tano, who's been sent to be Anakin's padawan, whom is not impressed with the idea of having a padawan yet. So Anakin and Ahsoka go off to destroy some shield generator while Obi-Wan and what remains of the troops try and distract the CIS army long enough for Anakin and Ahsoka to succeed.
The second half of the film is the rescuing of Jabba the Hutt's son, Rotta, from Asajj Ventress and the CIS army on the planet Teth. During the time, Dooku has apparently tricked Jabba into thinking the jedi were the ones that kidnapped Rotta and plan to kill him and the entire Hutt clan. Anakin and Ahsoka blast off to return Rotta on Tatooine, while Obi-Wan dukes it out with Asajj.
And the final half has all the pieces come together. Padme tries to gain audience with Jabba's uncle, Ziro in hopes of contacting Jabba again to try and convince him the jedi are innocent, only to discover Ziro was responsible for the kidnapping of Rotta, and is in league with Dooku. Anakin and Ahsoka land on Tatooine, Anakin battles Dooku, Ahsoka battles Magna Droids, Rotta is returned, Padme contacts Jabba just in time to reveal Ziro and Dooku were the ones that kidnapped Rotta, Jabba agrees to a truce with the Republic and allows them have safe passage through the Outer Rim territories on his routes, and everything is sorted out.
...see? This pretty much just sounds like a three-parter episodes and not a full length movie.
If you haven't seen the movie yet...then save your money when it comes out on DVD or comes on TV...as it's not worth seeing it in the theater.
