Welcome to the IMDb Contributor Rewind. To say a huge “thanks” to you, we are sharing some of the most interesting and surprising insights from this year* based on your amazing contributions. From how many Star Wars Star Destroyers you could fill with the number of cast and crew added this year, to the most reviewed titles in film, TV and video games. We hope you enjoy it!
This year our contributors added a colossal 3,572,622 titles, growing the total number of titles on IMDb to 12,235,351 (as of 10/31/2022).
We thought it would be fun to get creative and imagine what could happen if we were to total some of these. The results were interesting to say the least!
Adding all the height submissions (18,423 in total!), these would all equate to 31,993 meters. In 2021's Godzilla vs. Kong, Godzilla stood at a massive 120 meters, meaning all of the heights submitted this year would be the equivalent of 266 Godzillas stacked one on top the other. A truly terrifying notion.
With so many titles added this year, we also received plenty of run times. Add these run times together and you have over 745 million minutes of film, TV shows, podcasts and music videos. In that time you could watch Titanic (which runs at 194 minutes) 3,840,206 times, if that kind of thing floats your boat.
You all work tirelessly to ensure that cast and crew get their credit, from A-listers to extras and grips to stunt performers and everything in between. With 947,439 names added, you could fill 25 Star Destroyers, which would hold an estimated 9,235 Officers, 27,850 enlisted personnel, and 275 Gunners according to Star Wars lore.
IMDb contributors love to add plot outlines to films and TV shows to help others get the gist of what a title is all about. With over 323,869 plot outlines submitted, containing 8,195,410 words, you could fill the 7 Harry Potter books 7 times over. The Harry Potter books contain a total of 1,084,170 words.
You all help in bringing pictures to match the words. This year we received a total of 1,201,678 still frame image contributions - that’s a lot of pixels. If we combined all of these images together and played them at 24 FPS (the standard frame rate for movies), you would get a pretty weird movie with a runtime of 834 minutes. In that time you could watch Avatar: The Way of Water four times, which you may already have done by now if it’s been released where you are.
